The head of the Israeli settler group Yesha Council, David Elhayani,[he], accused Mr. Netanyahu of „betraying” some of his most loyal supporters and of „deceiving half a million people in the region and hundreds of thousands of voters.” Oded Revivi [he], the mayor of Efrat, a settlement of more than 9,000 people south of Jerusalem, supported Netanyahu, arguing that „the Israeli agreement to defer the application of Israeli law in the Jewish settlements of Judea and Samaria was a fair price to pay,” adding that it could change the way settlements are viewed. Beit El Settlement Mayor Shai Alon and Shomron Regional Council President Yossi Dagan also criticized the agreement. Protests and demonstrations have taken place in many cities in Pakistan to condemn the agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel. On 13 August 2020, uae Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash announced the UNITED Arab Emirates agreement on normalizing relations with Israel and said his country wanted to address threats to the two-state solution, particularly the annexation of the Palestinian territories, and to ask the Palestinians and Israelis to return to the negotiating table. He suggested that he did not think there would be an embassy in Jerusalem until there was a final agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis. According to US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, „Israel and the United Arab Emirates will completely normalize diplomatic relations. They will exchange embassies and ambassadors and begin working together in all areas such as tourism, education, health, trade and security. The News International reported that Pakistan, after consultation and consideration of the pros and cons of the evolution of Pakistan`s national interests, would take a position on the agreement on Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi avoided speaking on the sensitive issue. Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) official Hanan Ashrawi criticized the agreement and wrote on Twitter: „Israel has been rewarded for not openly declaring what it has done illegally and stubbornly to Palestine since the beginning of the occupation.” Fatah accused the United Arab Emirates of „despising their national, religious and humanitarian duties” towards the Palestinian people, while Hamas declared it a „traitor sting in the back of the Palestinian people”, saying that the agreement was a „free reward” for the „crimes and violations of the Palestinian people”.
According to Hannu Juusola [fi] at the University of Helsinki, the agreement meant that the Palestinians would think that the United Arab Emirates would put its own interests ahead of those of the Palestinians, who had always assumed that Arab countries would not sign peace agreements with Israel until Palestinian rights were guaranteed. Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi said the agreement would pave the way for peace agreements with other nations and welcomed the suspension of unilateral annexation. Yesh Atid`s chairman Yair Lapid welcomed the agreement as a „important step” for normalization with the UAE and said it showed mutual agreements are the path to be path to be path for Israel`s relations with other nations, instead of unilateral steps like annexation.
